Burning pain in right breast

I have cystic breasts. Recently upon removal of an underwire bra I got a searing/burning pain in my right breast between the nipple and arm pit.  I can actually localize it with my finger and upon applying pressure the pain is unbearable.  Even just standing up (without a bra) can cause horrific pain. Now just yesterday it happened again and the pain is really not subsiding at all. I'm sure this is nothing to worry about, but I thought I'd pose the question to this forum.  I was going to rush to the emergency room, but thought better of it. I appreciate any answers.  I also have a call into my primary doctor.

Hi,
I am on hormones for a long time now at the age of 40. I seldom get burning in my breasts or nipples alone. I have had great checks up and nothing seems to be wrong. I was wondering if the hormones do this as I know medicine can do things to a person also? I know this lady who was at the doctors once for her appointment and she had burning in her breasts also. She found out that it was a heart attack and they put 7 stints in her heart. I was shocked to hear this as I know it must be hormone related with me as when I did have my periods, my breasts really did hurt also. I am not worried just wondering if anyone has had this problem also?
Thanks

Hi,

I had to have a mammogram a couple months after I finished my radiation treatments for BC.  My lumpectomy scar is 3 inches and located right at the top of my breast. I took Aleve before I went for the mammo, but still had excruciating pain.  I had pain for a full week.  I even went to see my surgeon and he said all was fine.

Now, I had to have another mammo recently and I informed the tech before she began about the amount of pain that I had the previous time.  It was the same tech.  She said she would pad the table to see if that helped.  She put a pad on the table and on the plate that squishes your breast.  Turns out....it really did help!  Only a small amount of pain for those few seconds and no pain the following week.  And she was very kind...she kept apologizing for the pain.

So...next time you go for a mammo, ask them to pad the table and see if that helps.  So sorry you had so much pain.  I can certainly understand.

Good luck.

Speaking of burning pain....
I had my first mammogram six months ago.   To say it was excruciating is a mild statement.   At the mammogram the technician asked me if I had breast implants (I don't) and squeezed me in the typical directions until things popped, but ignored the pain she was causing.  I think this was a hostile act, but am unsure.  The offices acted like it was no big deal and normal, but my gut tells me thats B__ S---.

It took me a month to heal back to any thing like normal except that I notice that I have no sensation (as in I can't feel much--certainly 90% less than I used to).

I got a second opinion,3 week s after the mammogram and they assured me that the tech did no permanent damage...

I cant find anything about this... can anyone doctor or fellow chat tell me what has occured inside my body... I'm scared this incompetent tech has done permanent damage.   Any references would be much appreciated!!!

Dear stormwatch, Breast pain is a common breast symptom.  The reason for breast pain is not clearly understood, and is not usually associated with breast cancer.  Breast pain is sometimes associated with hormonal variations and is then called cyclical breast pain.  Noncyclical breast pain does not seem to be linked to hormonal variations and is often localized to one area of the breast tissue.  Noncyclical breast pain may or may not be the result of an injury to the breast. And given how you are associating it with the underwire bra, perhaps this may have occurred.

Discuss your symptoms with your physician.  Breast pain is evaluated based on the history of the pain you would give to the health care professional, as well as a physical examination.  The need for further testing would be determined based on the above findings.  Some recommendations for treatment of breast pain involve simple comfort measures such as a supportive or exercise bra, or application of warm or cold packs.  Caffeine avoidance, limit salt intake and reduction of dietary fat may also help.
