Cancer or Fat Necrosis?

I had a breast reduction about 18 yrs ago.  Last month I found a lump in my breast, and had dimpling. I had a mammogram and ultrasoud last week..  The doctors told me that it looked suspicious and they did a BSGI which looks for abnormal cell activity, which they found.  The radiologist or surgeon never said that I have cancer but were acting as if I did, talking to me about mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, without having a biopsy.  During my biopsy yesterday, the surgeon for the first time mentioned fat necrosis.  Now I am very confused.  I had been thinking for over a week that I have breastg cancer and just needed a biopsy to confirm.  Now he is telling me it might be something different.  My question is: If I had a BSGI that showed abnormnal cell activity is there still a real possibility that I could have fat necrosis?

I am so sorry to learn about this turn of events...but now that you know, it's the time for you to be strong and do whatever is necessary to fight this evil we call "cancer".
Nowadays treatments are so advanced that many women diagnosed with breast cancer have succeeded in overcoming this terrible disease....and so can YOU!
A little suggestion ,if I may.
Write down all the questions you need to ask your Surgeon, because usually when we face the doctors we are so stressed that we might forget what to ask. Also try to take someone with you, husband, sister or a close friend so that they can help you remember things in case you missed something that was said to you by your Surgeon.
I hope and pray that your surgery and treatment will be uneventful and very successful!
Good luck and God Bless you...

Hi,
I am sorry that your post hasn't been answered up to now...It could be that we are not sure what to tell you about this problem you are facing.
The only thing that I can come up with,is that I read a case concerning a woman who had atypical cells (Abnormal) found in her lump and when the lump was surgically excised ,her pathology report stated that the lump was fat necrosis. So my best guess would be that fat necrosis could also show abnormal cells activity.

I am sorry if I can't be more helpful...I wish I could, because I know that you must be so worried not knowing what's going on.
Please keep us posted and let us know how things are proceeding.
Wishing you all the best and good luck!
