Cancer or Hormones

Is it normal for my 12 year old daughter to have a lump under her armpit?  I just noticed it about an hour ago.  My daughter is a bit developed for her age but my concern is that cancer runs in her family.  Her grandmother's sister died from breast cancer, and her aunt presently had a breast removed due to breast cancer.  I'm hoping its only hormones.  Please, if anyone out there has had the same experience, please write back.  I am going to call her docotor tomorrow to see if they will see her asap.  I cant even think straight. Please help
Thank you.

No, cancer would not show up in any routine blood work. An infection would of course depending on the type of blood work that was done. 5 days is not long enough on antibiotics to notice much of a change though. Keep us posted after you see the Dr. again. Regards .....

Hello... I Took my daughter to the doctor on Thursday, May 14th.  He said it could be a skin infection and gave her antibiotics.  He also said that if it doesnt go away within a week or so, they will have to do an ultrasound on it.  This is her 5th day into the pill and lump is still there..not smaller at all...I made them do blood work on her that day. We should be heading back to the doctors by end of this week or beginning of next to see if anything in blood....Do you think that if she did have beginning of cancer it would show in her blood? (like higher white blood cells or red cells)  ?

You're more than welcome .. you would no doubt be amazed how many teens and pre-teens come here with breast issues. It seems to be easier for some than to talk to Mom. We'll be waiting to hear the outcome when you see the Dr. .... Take care ....

Thank you so much for your reply.  It's my first time on these forums... I never thought I would ever use it.  It's awsome..especially when there are people like you out there.  I think I'll be able to sleep a little better tonight until I take her to the Doctor.  I will post her results and hopefully it can help someone else with the same problem.
Thanks again Japdip  : )

If the lump is in the underarm area it sound like a swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes become swollen for a variety of reasons ... one being an infection somewhere in the body.  It does deserve an examination but I don't see any connection to breast cancer. As a rule breast cancer would present as a lump in the breast itself and 12 is pretty young to be thinking BC anyway. When family history is mentioned it usually applies to1st degree relatives ....  mother, sister.    Regards ....
