Complex Cysts

Dear Professional, I'm 44 years Asian Lady and had removed few fibroadenoma lumps twice in both breasts. Maternal grandmother and grand aunt died of breast cancer. My mum also had herself removed fibroadenoma lump.

I have always encountered pain in both breasts but left breasts give me more problem. When before mensuration I can feel like a stone inserted in my left breast, I feel heavy, tense and pain. I had right now reduce on caffeine products. Should I take evening primrose oil, vitamin B or D to reduce my symptoms.

My recent US done on 5/3/2010:
Clinical Data:Fibrocystic change.ex bx of fa in 2/09
US study of bilateral breast has been performed. Comparison done with previous study dated 28/8/09.
Multiple cysts are seen in both the breasts as shown in the diagram. Some of the cysts are complicated having internal echoes or septations. Most of the cysts are subcentimeter insize except a cyst in the (L) breast at 3 o'clock position 7 cm from the nipple measuring approximately 1.3x0.5x0.4cm. There is another hypoechoic nodule at 4 o'clock position in the (L) breast that is 4cms from the nipple measuring 1.1x1.0x0.5cm. It may be a cyst with internal echoes or a sonographically benign solid nodule.

No abnormal axillary lymphadenopathy is seen.

Impression-
Multiple cysts in both the breasts as shown in the diagram, most are subcentimeter and some are complicated. Two of the notable lesions are in the (L) breast as described above that are over 1 cm in size at 3 and 4 o'clock position. The nodule at 4 o'clock position is hypoechoic and could be either a cyst with internal echoes or a sonographically benign solid nodule. Since the previous study, the nodule at 4 o'clock position in the (L) breast has become more hypoechoic as compared to previously noted anechoic cyst. This is probably due to internal echoes.

My concerns is will complex cysts turn cancer? Will complex cysts and water cysts reduce the size or disappear if I change my diet.

Thanks in advance for your professional advice.
LL.

If a biopsy wasn't recomended then I would assume that the Dr. did not think these complex cysts were anything to be overly concerned about. You should definitely have the follow-up films as recommended as this will serve to track any growth that may take place with these cysts. I don't know if the vitamins / suppliments will help but I don't think they will hurt; you should ck. with your Dr. before taking anything of this nature though.   Regards .....

Thanks for your advice.

My doctor did not ask me to go for any biopsy but only arrange a follow up appointment for mammogram and ultrasound on Aug'10. So should I request for a biopsy for my complex cysts?

As right now I have multiple breasts cysts including complex cysts, two uterus fibroid and two ovarian cysts I thought of taking vitamin B6, evening primrose oil combined with vitamin E to help reduce breast pain and cysts formation.

Once again, thanking you in advance

A complex cyst has both fluid and solid components. Usually with complex cysts a biopsy is recommended OR surgical removal of the entire cyst. There can be some question as to the nature of the solid part of these complex cysts and that is why they are often biopsied. I know of no dietary change that will make these cysts disappear. The reduction of caffeine can reduce the occurance of cysts but they are also associated with the hormone levels in the body. Some vitamins are recommended at times but you need to discuss this with your Physician. If a biopsy was recommended then I would advise you to have that done OR even the removal of the complex cysts. The simple, fluid filled cysts can be left alone or drained with a needle and are of no particular concern.   Regards .....
