Complicated Cyst

I had an abnormal Mammogram followed by an ultrasound followed by a fine needle aspiration then a Biopsy. The Dr's ofc just called and i'm more confused then ever. They are stating that I have a "complicated" cyst and have to come back in 6 months for another mammogram. How is it that they are not able to just determine what it is and be done with it? Can a complicated cyst someday just turn cancerous? If so then why not just take it cyst out completley or something? Why wait another 6 months???? This does nothing to help with not worrying about it...

Cysts are benign. If they told you to come back in six months you can be sure they do suspect cancer. It may be that the cyst is growing very quickly and may become a problem for that reason.

This is an excellent study on complicated cysts. Good news is that in research only 0.3% to 4% are they malignant. You would have been diagnosed with the complicated cyst by sonography (ultrasound). It does not sound like you have gotten a pathology report from your aspiration. I would ask for that so you have more info on the type of complicated cyst they are referring to. Hope this helps and best wishes to you.
