Dear boninclyde: "ray gun" cancer treatment is referring to a type of radiation therapy using carbon-ions as the radiation source. This is an experimental radiation technology being developed in Germany. This therapy is in the early development stages and clinical trials are being done treating very specific tumor types and sites (not breast cancer at this time).
Can you elaborate on what you mean about "hormones"? What kind of hormones and from what forms of therapy?? Fertility drugs? Estrogen? Please be more specific in what you have heard. I am very interested! Thank you.
My mother has been on hormone replacement therapy for 30 years with no problems so this is still contraversial.
The new technology is called "Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Centre. Very interesting. I am still reading up on it. Though it may not be availible for us for quite some time (a few years). Really amazing. Don't know how to send a link here but look up the name of the technology. Let me know what you think. It does in a way seem like star wars but they say it is a proven cure. I wonder if we will be able to get our government here to fund this to save lives instead of the wars we create that take lives.
HHMM - sounds like something from Star Wars. Have not heard anything - is there a website or info somewhere on the internet? Interesting news about decrease in breast cancer cases since women have gone off of hormones with the scare a few years ago.
It was on the news tonight and probably in the papers tomorrow. It refers to hormone replacement (Premarin, Provera, Estratest, etc.) that most women were taking at menopause. A few years ago, a study found that, especially in women with estrogen positive breast tumors, many of them had been on hormones which could "fuel" the tumors. My tumor was highly positive (98%) for estrogen and I had been on Premarin for five years. I've obviously stopped since my lumpectomy and have been on Arimidex which helps stop the formation of any estrogen.
