Hi,
Cysts are very common and can appear at any age. Simple cysts are related to the increasing hormonal fluctuation and are harmless, but make sure you have regular screening as recommended by your doctor to check for any changes.
If the cyst in your breast becomes too enlarged and painful, a needle aspiration will usually resolve the problem.
Avoiding foods and beverages containing caffeine can decrease water retention and may help shrink the cysts and alleviate discomfort if you have breast pain.
Experienced Radiologists are quite able to identify typically benign breast calcifications depending on their form and pattern. If no suspicion is detected a biopsy is not required to prevent unnecessary procedures.
The report on your mammogram states BIRADS category 3,"probably benign finding" This means that the calcifications have a very high probability of being benign.A 3 or 6 months follow up is standard procedure.
I really wouldn't worry about your tests findings…If these calcifications were suspicious in any way,a biopsy would have certainly been ordered.
However,if you really feel uncomfortable waiting until your next follow-up, you could certainly have your films read by different radiologist for a second opinion.
Best wishes...

Hi. I have a 7mm cyst that has increased in size over 4 years that is "benign-appearing" with no solid abnormality, and a grouped calcification that is "probably benign" ( BIRADS-3) and several other scattered calcifications. Should I ask for a biopsy to make sure, and/or get a MRI? Also, would you recommend a second opinion? I have dense breast tissue.
I join Japdip to thank you for telling us this wonderful news...WOO- HOO !!
Congratulations .... that's the kind of news we like to hear. Please don't forget that just because this was negative you should always have any and every new thing investigated. We can never assume that every other finding would also be benign. Thanks for the update and once again ... HOORAY !!
All good...just a cyst. Not even any atypia. I'm so thankful.
The waiting is the hardest part I know, but as you say keep as busy as you can so the waiting will seem shorter. We've all been through that difficult time but
hang in there and lets hope for benign findings!
The walls were irregular as noted by the special views. It was lobulated. I think that's the word they used. They've been watching it for five years and this year it changed. Just stay busy until Tuesday.

Hi,
Concerned yes but not overly worried.Complex cysts could be problematic, since they contain some solid material (debris) and particularly if the cyst walls tend to be thick and irregular, which can be noted on ultrasound.
Usually complex cysts are aspirated and have the cells examined to better evaluate the nature of the cyst.No one can say for now what the outcome will be,but the good news is that the majority of these type of cysts will results in benign findings when biopsied and I hope the same for you too.
All the best and good luck!
