DCIS gone bad

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is the presence of abnormal cells inside a milk duct in the breast. DCIS is considered the earliest form of breast cancer. DCIS is noninvasive, meaning it hasn't spread out of the milk duct to invade other parts of the breast. Reading that doesn't make you think mastectomy, right?

I keep reading comments about over-treatment of DCIS or over-treatment of Breast Cancer. Just in case you've ever wondered where I stand on this issue I want to make it perfectly clear that I don't believe in over-treatment for either. I believe in doing everything possible to survive the first diagnosis. You certainly do NOT want a second diagnosis!

A dear friend of mine was diagnosed 2 years ago with DCIS. She was BRCA positive and so she chose to have bilateral mastectomies immediately. She never had a second diagnosis. My dear friend died two weeks ago at the ripe age of 28 leaving behind a 1 year old and a 4 year old and a grieving husband and family.

Despite doing everything possible she died of breast cancer. We need a cure, please..... It's time for a cure, please..... really..... it's way past time..... please.

When will we have a cure for breast cancer?

Hi Sue ... how sad and just imagine of the similar cases that we don't ever hear about ... it scares me!! When ????  A question without and answer regarding a disease without a cure !! This is one reason I always remind women that having mastectomies does NOT insure that you will be free from a recurrence. I'm convinced that a majority of women of all ages believe that removing the breast will set you free. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend.
Take care please ......
