I'm 43 and had my 1st mammogram on 5/12/09. I was asked to come back for another mammogram & sonogram. My results from the new mammogram was "in left upper inner quadrant, approx 9 cm deep to the nipple, there is a 4-5 cm area of architectural distortion with a lucent center. Addt'lly there is a 1 cm oval, well-defined mass in the 8 o'clock position, approx 1 cm from nipple. On the right in the 2 o'clock position, approx 1 cm from the nipple there is a fairly well-defined mass measuring .8 cm." There is a question reqarding the indistinct margin.
From the sonogram: "in the left 8 o'clock position, approx 1 cm from the nipple, there is a .9 cm hypoechoic mass, likely a small fibroadenoma. In the 10 o'clock position, approx 5 cm from the nipple, there is some slightly heterogeneous tissue without focal mass formation. A few benign cysts are seen in this region. In the right 2 o'clock position, approx 1 cm from the nipple, there is a .8 cm hypoechoic mass with indistint margins".
"IMPRESSION: SUSPICIOUS OF MALIGNANCY"
I'm scheduled for a stereotactic core biopsy & ultrasound guided core biopsy next week. There is a history of breast cancer in my family (paternal grandmother). What does all this mean? The doctor doing the sonogram mentioned that it's possible the architectural distortion area could be a growth area for cancer. TIA
