Ductal Carcinoma

My mother 56 years old had tested with invasive ductal carcinoma two years back. she had passed through the lumpectomy, chemo and radiation therapy. It was normal for two years. but now after two years, the cancer is repeated in the same side of breast with a lump just near the old surgical scar. now doctor suggest me to go through mastestecomy and repeat the chemo cycle followed with radiation therapy. there is not any significant node invasion or metastatic symptoms seen on further test done. please suggest is it normal again after the recurrance of carcinoma? what could be the prognosis for this kind of passion. i am in tension and could not confirmed what to do.
your suitable suggestion will lead me to free of the tension. please provide me the suitable suggestion.

Thank you.

poor son of a loving mother.

Hi,
I am so sorry that your mother has a recurrence of breast cancer…This is something no one wants to face, however, if it does happen, breast cancer relapse can be effectively treated most of the time.
When a local recurrence is found, it is treated in much the same way as the first tumor. It’s a good thing that there is no evidence of nodes invasion or metastatic symptoms . . Local recurrence can have an excellent prognosis thanks to better and improved treatments.
I am sure that her doctors, who have her complete medical record, have planned a specific and effective treatments for your mother, but if you have any doubts regarding the treatments ,particularly about the radiation therapy, which is not usually recommended if the breast has been previously radiated, you can always seek a second opinion from a different Oncologist .
Your mother should start treatments quickly after the diagnosis of a recurrence. ..The sooner treatment starts, the better.
Hoping that all goes well for her and I wish you both all the best.
