Implant replacement

I am 55 years old and have 30 year old leaking silicon implants. To have them replaced, should I go through the same scar underneath the breast and have them inserted in the same pocket located in front of the muscle. Or should I have them put behind the muscle. I have been given different opinions related to the ability to detect cancer. I do not have a history of breast cancer. Thank-you for your input.

Dear abrite, We ran your question by one of our plastic surgeons.  In general the preference would be to go through the same scar under the breast to replace the implant and placing the new implant under the muscle.  However, without being able to evaluate specifics of your situation we cannot say for sure that this would be the recommendation after evaluation and examination.

After having a bi-lateral mastectomy, with follow up silicone breast implants and nipple and areola reconstruction a year ago, I am wondering why the left areola scar is still a soft pink.  No sign of infection and the other one is almost a brown now and so I am assuming that the right one is not completely healed.  How long does it take to heal?

Thanks

If you mean you have been given the choice by your Plastic Surgeon then it would be a personal decision. If you haven't been advised as yet by the Surgeon then I would go with his/her recommendation. You might post this question on the Plastic Surgery Forum which I believe is a recent addition to the Forum List.
