In AGONY after biopsy...

Had a biopsy yesterday and I am in agony!  Here's some history.

In March I had an MRI because it was my time to have one.  Mom had BC at 38 so they screen me carefully.  Found a 1cm area of enhancement, so they decided to biopsy it using ultrasound.  It was nothing, however on my 3 month follow up MRI, the lesion was still there, same size and same shape and the marker from the US biopsy was not near the lesion so they determined they biopsied the wrong spot.  Yesterday, they localized the spot using MRI, which I felt every bit of by the way and bled all over their table, and then they sent me up to the OR to have the area surgically removed.  I do not believe the radiologist or my surgeon think this is cancer, but I am now scared waiting.  As for the pain, it is rediculous!  I have had 8 biopsies prior to this and never this amount of pain.  I can't even move my arm or shoulder, plus the percocet made me throw up and get a headache, so I am trying ot keep some motrin down.

Is this normal to have such swelling and pain?  I never got to speak to my surgeon, because I was asleep, but he was all smiles and told my mom that he took out a good chunk.  How long should I expect to feel like this?  I have a 4 year old and a 12 month old to take care of and I am unable to do this now.

I hope to get my results Monday, but I am scared.

I hope you are feeling better. I found a prominent lump by accident. Even my radiation doctor and her resident couldn't find the lump until I sat up and forward. I have large dense breasts that fall back near my sides and I had not gotten a mammogram in two years...my fault the no mammogram.  AS it is I had  more than 10 core needle punches because I have two masses adjacent to each other--which they didn't tell me during the procedure because I would have flipped out...both are Cancer... and after the procedure I did develop a hematoma which was scary enough . I'm happy for you  that the Advil is enough...take care.

I know tomorrow is sunday, but you may want to call your doctor and tell him the percocet makes you sick and to call in vicodin instead for you.  Vicodin can make you sick as well and give you a headache, but it may not. I know people who cannot take one but the other.

Thanks for you prompt response.  Since I am not new to biopsies, I just thought that this one was especially brutal.  They always hurt, but I hav enever experienced this much pain and swelling.  I am sure I will have a hematoma from this one.  I am not sure when I will get the results due to the holiday weekend, but I will post when I get them.  Since my surgeon didn't even come and talk to me or call me after the durgery, I am sure that all was fine looking on the inside.  I have never had even one atypical cell in any of my samples so they are just being cautious I suppose.  I am still a scared mess.  As least I know that it didn't grow at all in the three months it's been there!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
How are you? I'm sorry to hear about your pain. Following the biopsy, it is normal  to feel some soreness and swelling near the surgery site for a few days until the tissue heals. The incision should completely heal within 1 month. Strenuous activity should be avoided for the first 2 or 3 weeks following the biopsy to prevent bleeding. Try to rest and avoid any rigorous activity.

Take care and all the best on your biopsy result. Please do update us.
