Is a Masectomy Necessary

A month ago I was told I had breast cancer (DCIS) in my left breast, nuclear grade 2. The right breast shows clustered calcifications that have the doctors concerned.  Because I have very large breast I have asked to get a reduction at the same time of the removal and reconstruction.  Both sergeons are concerned because the area of the cancer to too close to the nipple-areolar, which can cause some issue with the reduction.  The doctor called me today and said they both think it may be a good idea that I get a masectomy because of the amount of calcifications they see in the right breast and could be a possible sign of becoming malignant.  He said they would rebuild my breast using fat tissue from other areas of my body (stomach), which will give me the reduction I want and also remove all signs of cancer returning.  The plus is I would get a tummy tuck, but it is still a major decision that I will soon have to make.

Is this the best option for me?

If you have confidece in your Physicians the recommendation sounds reasonable to me. If you have doubts then by all means get a second opinion as this is a big decision.

It sounds like a reasonable plan to me.  It's what I'd do if there were calcifications they were concerned about and I had the necessary fat tissue for reconstruction.
