Is "stromal sclerosis" the same as (m)...

"sclerosing lobular hyperplasia"?

My path report said "adenosis with stromal sclerosis". This was taken during a lumpectomy, a lump from upper outer quadrant of left breast. When I search stromal sclerosis, this is what comes up. She (the breast surgeon) said it was in my lobules and that even though it was benign, I have a higher risk of BC because of the sclerosis.

Thank you Nurse.

Dear spankyandrex:  Adenosis with stromal sclerosis is an abnormality that looks similar to a suspected cancer on mammogram.  When submitted for biopsy, the features of this abnormality do not have malignant (cancerous) features.  This is not the same as sclerosing lobular hyperplasia.  There have been several studies looking at whether adenosis with stromal sclerosis increases the risk of developing breast cancer.  Some suggest a minimal increased risk of developing breast cancer when this condition is present.  If atypical hyperplasia is also present, the risk of developing breast cancer is greater.
