Leaking nipple/Possible dilated duct

My sister in law who is in her 40's and is non childbearing has had one nipple leaking a clear fluid for 3 months. The sono tech told her that she thinks it could be a dilated milk duct. My concern is that since she was never childbearing, is she at a higher risk for breast cancer? We will not get results for another week on Mammo or sono. I have been researching and realize it could be mammary duct ectasia, etc. but just needing some thoughts.

It's good that you insisted she go to the Dr. ... it's always best to ck. things out. One thing .. she should STOP squeezing because this sends a signal to the brain and will cause some breast discharge. This discharge can be almost any color or consistency. There is concern when the discharge is bloody, from one breast only and ONLY if NO stimulation is present. Regards ....

It will leak on its own or if she squeezes it. However she has not felt any lumps that she cant tell. I had to make her go to the doctor.

That would be my thought but keep in mind that breast discharge is most times of no particular concern, depending on any other symptoms that may be present. Statistics do reveal that women who have not had children have an increased risk for developing Breast Cancer .... there are many other factors that raise the risk also but it is rather slight in comparison. You don't mention but it is important that this discharge is produced WITHOUT any type of stimulation such as squeezing the breast or nipple area. This will produce a discharge.  Regards ....
