Male breast lump/pain

I am a 62 year old male with a slightly painful small hard lump on my left breast, very close to the nipple.  No other symptoms exist.  Is this just a benign cyst?  What should I do?

Dear Dennis thank you for your response.  I have noticed the lump 3 weeks ago and it has been hurting ever since.  The lump is the size of a smaller grape.  No one in my family had breast, only brain cancer.  I will definitively see a doctor about this.  Do you think this could really be breast cancer?

Hi Richard.
I just have some clarifications.  When did you notice the lump on your left breast?  What is the size of the lump?  Are there any family members with breast cancer?
It would be hard to tell exactly if the lump on your left breast is a benign cyst or not.  I would suggest having yourself examined by your doctor.  An ultrasound of the breast will differentiate a solid versus a cystic mass.  A biopsy may also be needed.
Good luck.
