Hi,
Glad you posted in our Forum and let me tell you that you are no bother at all!
First of all I would like to assure you that a painful lump is rarely associated with breast cancer and even rarer because you are a young man.
Your doctor is right, you don't have to worry about it and as she said, this lumps is most likely related to hormonal changes in your body.If you think you have gynecomastia, your doctor would have most probably told you so.
Please follow your doctor's advice by checking this lumps regularly to see if there are any changes or if it persists. Also keep the appointment for next month.Your doctor will be the best person advising you if any test has to be ordered to make sure that all is fine with you.
Best wishes and take care..

Hi,
First, I want to compliment you on having the good sense to go to your doctor with your concern! Had you written to us first, we would have mentioned that it was probably hormone-related, but would have also counseled you to see a doctor for an examintion, so you are a step ahead.
I think you can relax now, and just follow your doctor's good advice to go back for a recheck in a month if it worsens or persists.
Genetics does play a role in BC, but not as great of one as many people believe, plus it is a factor mainly if a first-degree relative (mother, father, brother, sister) has had breast cancer. Gynecomastia is abnormally large mammary glands (bilaterally) in the male, which may secrete milk. Unless you have other symptoms which you did not mention, you probabably just have a lump related to hormone shifts, fairly common in young men your age.
Best wishes...
