Not sure what this breast lump is at 21?

I need advice...

So i have the most awful phobia of anything medical ESPECIALLY needles, and as ignorant as it is to ignore my problem i hope you can understand the fear i have of what i might have to have done!! Hence why i am posting on here.

I am 21 years old. Ever since i can remember there has been the tiniest bump in my right breast. As my breasts have grown so has the lump. I can feel it very easily in my breast and it is mainly round (about 3cms) but with what feels like a bit of an uneven shape at the top. Its very hard. It doesn't cause me any pain. I have read alot about breast fibroadenomas which sound quite common for someone my age? But could this also be cancer? Both my breasts have never been soft and fatty. They feel bumpy inside all the time and quite tender no matter if im close to my period or not. And this is the way they have always been. I have heard you can have dense breast tissue. I assume i must have this!!

What do other people think my bumb sounds like? Could it be possible this lump that has been growing since a young age is cancer?! And if i plucked up the courage to see someone about it.. does anyone know if i will be able to just have a scan rather than a needle biopsy?!

Thanks!!

If this lump has been present "ever since you can remember" it would be very doubtful that it could be cancer. From your description you most likely do have what is often referred to as "lumpy breast tissue" and Fibroadenomas can occur at almost any age. This is also true of dense breast tissue. I can assure you that WHEN (not if) you see your Dr. about your problem there are several things that will be done before a biopsy is considered. This may well be something that can be diagnosed with something as harmless as an Ultrasound. Usually even a Mammogram isn't recommended due to the dense breast tissue. I see no reason for a needle to be involved in a breast exam at your Dr.s office so make that appointment soon, OK ??    Regards ....
