Well, that's good news that all your tests were negative and that a breast Surgeon is investigating your breast problem.
I hope that everything will go well for you ! :)
I did see a breast surgeon. I had mammo/ultrasound done and both were negative for breast tumors but I had a Bi-rad of 4 because of suspicious lesion of unknown origin. I'm justing waiting until the day I go see the dermatologist in 2 weeks, so he can do the biopsy. I will keep you updated.
Hi,
Thanks for the update and I am sorry that you are still suffering with this stubborn areola rash.
Aside the biopsy you are going to have,I wonder if your doctor ordered a Mammogram/Ultrasound or an MRI,because most people with Paget’s disease of the nipple could also have one or more breast tumors. It's a good thing that your Dr. wants a second opinion and I hope he/she referred you to a Breast Surgeon, because they are the most experienced doctors regarding breasts problems.
As far as I know,Paget's disease of the nipple is quite rare ..Sometimes it can occur in both breasts, but that would be extremely rare.
I doubt that you have this disease, your symptoms sound more like a severe allergic reaction. After more investigation is done, I hope that you'll soon find out what is causing this rash, have it treated and eventually find the relief you've been waiting for.
Best wishes and good luck!
Okay, after treatment of hydrocortisone cream for 3 weeks it went away but as soon as I stopped it came back within 3 days. Now waiting to see dermatologist to see what it is because now both breast have it. So far negative for paget disease. My doctor wants another opinion to make sure it's not paget disease or anything to do with cancer. Is it a possibility of autoimmune disease? I do have seasonal allergies and hypersensitivity to meds and things. I always use products that are hypoallergenic and when I buy new clothes they are washed before I use it. Nothing seems to work. My doctor thinks it maybe autoimmune in nature or eczema. Waiting for biopsy by dermatologist to find out the cause of this rash. I just want relief!
Hi again,
This is a problem that definitely needs to be investigated.
I think that your Doctor is giving you excellent medical care to have ordered a biopsy, because this disease can indeed be overlooked by many doctors.
I am still hoping that what you have could be due to eczema or other infection and not necessarily Paget's disease, but of course no one can know for sure, until a biopsy is performed.
I wish you good luck and benign findings.
Thanks for your response. It appear overnight and spreaded around the areola but not on the nipple. It looks more like in between eczema and cellulitis or some type of infection but as a caution from my doctor they want a biopsy done to make sure its not paget disease. It becomes raw after a shower when the scab comes off, it warm to hot to a touch, very sensitive/painful at times, and dry scaly at times. There's no nipple discharge but the raw area leaks a blister like fluid. Its been getting worse since it began about two and half weeks ago. No warning, appear overnight. I used bacitracin/aloe/eucerin healing therapy but got worse. They told me not to use anything until biopsy is done and they will give me something better.
Hi,
First of all ,chances are that what you have could simply be a skin problem, rather than Paget's nipple disease, which usually starts with redness and mild irritation on the nipple. It is a rare type of cancer that appears similar to Eczema that may improve for a while,
but after a few weeks or even month, the symptoms may reappear and show more serious destruction of the skin that may include tingling, itching, increased sensitivity, burning, and pain. There may also be discharge from the nipple, and the nipple can appear inverted or flattened against the breast. A mammogram is usually ordered to check for cancer in the breast itself, however a "clear" mammogram in the face of an abnormal nipple finding, will still require further investigation such as a simple punch biopsy that can be performed by a Radiologist or dermatologist who will definitely let you know if cancer is present or not.
The standard first treatment for Paget's disease is surgery. The type of surgery will depend on how much of the breast is affected by the cancer.
Hoping that you only have a skin problem that can be easily treated, but if your symptoms persist or worsen a biopsy would be the best thing to do, to obtain a correct diagnosis.
Best wishes..
