Phyllodes Tumour

I had a benign phyllodes tumour diagnosed in one breast after surgery. I then went for a second surgery to obtain clear margins, but it appears that they may well not have the clear margins and therefore they will recommed a third operation. This seems a great deal for one tumour  - has anyone else out there suffered through three surgeries or got any advice??  In the meantime, another phyllodes (this time low grade)  has grown in the other breast - This time I asked for wide local excision and thankfully I was right and they have clear margins on that one. Is there any follow up I should have considering have had 2 tumours grow in a short space of time. At the moment they are simply talking about scans once per year  - is this OK?

I know you will continue close monitoring, and join you in hoping all goes well.

Sorry you have had to have repeated surgery to obtain clear margins in regard to you first tumor. You were wise to be proactive and request wide excision for the second one.

Just so you won't feel so alone, here is a link to a thread by another person who required repeated surgery for her Phyllodes tumor:

If the tumors are benign or low grade then wide excision is the standard treatment ... clean margins need to be obtained even though it requires additional surgeries. For this type of Phyllodes annual Mammograms is most often recommended. They do tend to be rather fast growing.    Regards ....
