Radiation Therapy yes? or no?

I am looking for women who had DCIS treated with lumpectomy and no further treatment. I am a post-op lumpectomy.  Pathology report DCIS 5mm, Stage 0, clear margins, Grade 1-2.  No lymph node  biopsy done.  I am considering not doing any further treament.  Is there anyone  out there that went with no further treatment?  How was your outcome?
Thanks,
Maureen

Also depends on the size of the tumor.  Because mine was a little over 2 cm. and my stage was 2, I have to have both chemo and radiation even though my lymph nodes were clear.   I decided to rely on the expertise of my surgeon, radiologist and oncologist.  So far they have all been on the same page and all recommending treatment that is very typical for the specifics of my cancer.

Research, ask questions, pray and make the decision you can live with,
Best regards

HI Maureen,
It also depends on what grade of cancer you have.  There are grades one through three, with three being the most aggressive.  Radiation is not really a problem treatment other that getting there daily.
I also had DCIS, with grade three cancer, and chose to have radiation treatment.  My doctor had recommended it, and said that it is the usual treatment after DCIS, and with the grade of my cancer, he strongly recommended it.  I checked with other physicians I knew, and they all agreed.

Best of luck,

Thank you for your response.  I was anxcious to hear from someone who decide my same treatment course.  Did you have a biopsy followed by a lumpectomy?  Are you having follow-up mammograms every 6 months?  Thanks you for your response, MaureenB

Hi; I saw your post; I had DCIS surgery last May and my surgeon felt that I did not need radiation.  The sterotactic biopsy must have gotten all of it, as there was nothing after surgery.  Why radiate a healthy breast?  My characteristics were about as low as you can get.  I think each case of dcis should be dealt with individually and not one size fits all.  If it was widespread, then of course, do radiation.  Hope this helps.

I did have radiation, but I was strongly considering having no further treatment following surgery.
My surgeon was adamant, based on his experience and research, etc that radiation was in my best interest.
I trusted my surgeon enough to go ahead with radiation.

It's a difficult decision to have to make.
