STER/TACT/BIOPSY YESTERDAY

I had the STB Yesterday, I didn't get think to ask about the score, I Just know the paper said abnormal finding need more diagnostic tests at this time. When they started, they realized that most of the calcification changes since last year is located behind the nipple, I can not beleive how terribly painful it was to have have that done but the pain that I was in last night when the numbing wore off was worse...i don;t know if it is worse b/c it was under the nipple but it  is still so painful and only OTC were told to use if needed and this is a..... narcotic kind of pain for sure!! I had 3 babies and I don;t recall this type of pain involved.  I find out  the results on Monday they said, I am trying to remain peaceful and trusting in Gods will.

Mom is 5 years out of Mastectomy and cancer free.

My question is I guess I am wondering what the chances are that the calcification changes that have occured behind my nipple  is more indicitive of DCIS just because of where it is located? That is the type Mom has.

Thank you for this website!!!

Dear Daisy08,  Microcalcifications are small calcium deposits found within the breast tissue. Microcalcifications in and of themselves are not a condition that would become cancerous however they can be a sign of a problem that may need further investigation based on their appearance on a mammogram.  For instance microcalcifications that are more scattered are probably due to a benign (non-cancerous) cause, a “cluster” of microcalcifications may increase concern that there may be an underlying tumor.   The specific location of the microcalcifications within the breast does not indicate what will be found with the biopsy results.

I am going for a core biopsy on Tues - not sure if they can get it to it with that might need to try STB.  I too have a cluster of microcalcifications and hypoechoic mass with persistant shadowing.  I am a little newvous having this done.  I am reading about all the pain afterwards....
