Saline or Silicone implants???

Hi all you fellow implants girlfriends,
Please I'd like to hear from all of you that have had both kinds of implants Saline or Silicone and what your thoughts are about them. The reason I ask is that I will be having my implants put in by the end of this year. And due to the fact that I also have Diabetes, I thought it would be better for me to go with Saline implants. But I would love to hear the pros and cons of all of you.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Hi,  I have had my  saline implants for 32 years.  Never any trouble until about one year ago when I started having a burniing sensation in my left breast.  Other then that no problems except by breast are heavy and they now sag.  I weighed 90 lbs. when I got the implants, but now I am 120 lbs.  I can't find a 32DD bra with wide straps so I don't get ridges in my shoulders.  HELP.

Rippling is not necessarily the breast... you can feel the implant when you push up on your breast which could be ripples.  Saline is a liquid form compared to a gel, so when pressure is applied to the implant upon your skin, you are going to fill the implant ripple when pushing on your breast.  I hope this explains it well enough. However, please note that this is not something that anyone can see visually.  You might want discuss this concern to your surgeon so you have a better understanding.  Good Luck, I know you are going to love them with either one you go with.  GOD Bless!

I went for saline implants 3 years ago and love them. I am a runner and have never heard any water swishing around, however, I do have the rippling underneath the breast, which is kinda weird.  If I had to do it over again I may have gone with the Gel as metalgirl70 has mentioned.  I think it is great that you are researching all types of implants. You might want to ask your surgion if you can actually see them and play with them.  I know that sounds kinda weird, but this is what you are going to have to live with and you will want to go with something that you are completely satified with.  Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes for you.

I understand your concern since you have diabetes problems and don't want any more additional problems.  I have multiple sclerosis, so I deal with that set of issues, but I'm still really happy that I have the silicone implants.

Thank you both for all of your input, I am so confused. You read and hear so many bad things about the silicone, and how the saline is so much better for you if there is a rupture. I am a diabete and I am just trying to make sure that I do not cause any more problems for my self.. Even my PS said maybe the saline would be better for you, but then I read and hear how they never feel natural. It's bad enought loosing both breast without living the rest of your life hearing water rolling aroung in your chest.

Thank you ladies so much, I will keep reading and have enough talk with my PS I have till the end of the year to decide.

I have had both implant types.    I started out with saline implants 10 years ago.  From day 1 with those saline implants, I had a lot of rippling and they felt like water bags under my skin.  I could even feel them slosh around sometimes when I moved,

Well, last year I started having very sharp pains on the bottom on my right breast.  When I felt around the painful area, I felt an oblong sized lump!    I was terrified.

I had a  mammogram and ultrasound and neither one of those tests detected my lump.  It was recommended that I have an excisional biopsy.

So, I did and surgeon only removed a minute portion of the lump and it came back as normal tissue.  I was upset because I still felt a substancial part of the lump and I wanted to be sure it wasn't cancer.

So the general surgeon recommended that I consult a plastic surgeon and to see if my lump was scar tissue from the implant.  I did that, and ended up getting the saline implants switched out to the new memory gel implants.  At that time the plastic surgeon removed all off the questionable lump before putting the new implants in. (and the lump was really just normal tissue with the second biopsy)

So, when all was said and done, it was determined that my lump was probably caused by scar tissue probably from the large rippling saline implants that I had for 10 years.  The plastic surgeon felt that the ripples irritated the tissue over the years to cause a lump to form.

I love the gel implants.  There's no rippling and the feel so soft and real.

I'd go for the silicone implants if I were you!

Hi!

Personally if I had to choose I would get silicone. The risks are very low and they feel more like real breast. I to will be getting implants after the expanders have done thier work. But I am getting gummy implants. They are fairly new to the US but have been used in Canada and abroad for years. They feel fabulous and the contents are like gummy bear material. But again if I had to choose between silicone or saline I would choose silicone every time. My PS says they are safe. Keep in mind everything involves risks even walking across the street :)  Hope I helped a lil.

Take Care,
