Hi again.
It would be hard to tell by means of an ultrasound if the lump in your breast is secondary to an enlarged lymph node or a solid mass or nodule. An ultrasound can tell whether the lump is solid or cystic in nature.
There are different ways in obtaining a histologic diagnosis through biopsy. One option is by doing core needle biopsy. I do agree that sometimes the diagnosis is still uncertain after a core needle biopsy. Another option is doing an excision biopsy. Here, the entire lump is removed and the specimen is examined by the pathologist. There are more tissue removed, thus the diagnostic yield can be better. Biopsy by frozen section can also be an option. If there is a diagnosis of malignancy, the surgeon will proceed to mastectomy or breast conserving surgery.
You can ask your doctor for a referral to another doctor for a second opinion.
Take care.
Im so nervous and Im not sure if I want to just get this lump out or do I get the core needle biopsy. My mind is almost set just get operate and take it out if its not suppose to be there and it is growing. My surgeon said she would take it out if I wanted to go that route or do the core needle biopsy. I have heard that sometimes they have to repeat the needle biopsy if they dont get enough of tissue. The drs. aren't even sure if it is a solid nodule or a lymph node. It changed in size from a 8mm to 4x6 so Im sure if it is even a mm or cm. so many questions sorry. Any answers from viewers would help.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.the radiologist didn't mention if it was cm or mm, also how can they be so confused as not knowing by the ultrasound if I have a nodle or a lymph node on the right breast showing @9:00 they say.Can you tell me the difference please? I can't even feel this spot they are talking about. I wish I had referrals for another opinion.
Hi.
How are you doing?
I agree with the suggestion of having a biopsy done on the nodule in your breast. The nodule has grown from less than 1 cm to 4x6 cm. The biopsy would determine whether the nodule is benign or malignant.
If you feel the need to seek a second or third opinion from another doctor, by all means you can do it until you are satisfied. You need to be well informed of your condition and how you will be managed.
Good luck.
