Spiculated nodule

I had my annual (3D) mammogram several days ago and findings were: "developing tiny spiculated nodule concerning for malignancy".  I'm having a diagnostic mamm. and an ultrasound next week.  I'm quite tense about this.  No history of female cancers in our family - hardly any cancers - but my older brother is in his 2nd year of treatment for prostate cancer.  I'm 66.  I drink a lot of diet pepsi with caffeine.   Could that cause a spiculated nodule?   developing and tiny sound good.  speculated sounds really bad.  Just reaching out I guess to people that understand this fear and have any of you had a benign speculated nodule??

You are correct about the waiting .... everyone has stated that the waiting is the worst of all. It does  give us more time to dwell on negative thoughts and we are so good at that :(  You won't necessarily have a biopsy (if one is required) at the same time as the upcoming testing so accept the fact that even more waiting may be coming.  You can do it, we all have even though we may doubt ourselves now and then.  Regards .....

Thank you for reminding that waiting is just part of the process.

Two more days and I'll have my tests.  A doctor friend told me that I will have a biopsy, so I should be prepared. This waiting is so tiresome and stressful.  Surprised I find so many friends have had this experience of waiting for more tests after a bad mamm.

It is true that a spiculated lesion, nodule, mass, whatever is considered suspicious of a malignancy. I don't think any of the "factors" that you mentioned have anything to do with this discovery. It's very fortunate that the nodule has been discovered in this very early state of development and the additional testing will certainly give more information. After the results of the upcoming films are in there may be a recommendation for some type of biopsy to further confirm benign or malignant. Hang in there and try not to look to the negative outcome. Please let us know when you have more information and in the meantime we are keeping good thoughts for you.  Regards .....
