Stinging pain.

I am a breastfeeding mother currently trying to ween. I recently found a moveable lump in my left breast. Went to the dr had an ultrasound and mammogram and it showed the mass. The mass wasn't solid and it wasn't a cyst. It had some fluid in it that looked a little cloudy. Anyway they were thinking that it was focal mastitis -due to weening- and but me on an antibiotic. I go back to the dr the 31st to meet with a breast surgeon to talk about a needle biopsy. I was just wondering if shooting pain is usually associated with breast cancer? Since I have found the lump I have been getting shooting, stinging pains from where my lump is over to my shoulder and sometimes down my arm. I am scared to death that's it's something serious.

It's not unusual for more than one Antibiotic to be tried before the right one is found that will treat mastitis if that turns out to be the problem. Don't give up .... it may take more time that you'd like.   Take care .....

Very rarely is pain of any kind associated with Breast Cancer but it certainly can be where an infection is suspected. There could very well be some pressure being put on a nerve that would produce the type of pain you have described. Mastitis can be rather stubborn and may take some time to clear ... the needle biopsy will no doubt identify the problem when you see the Breast Specialist.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
