What is it

I just got back results from my biopsy today. It was "suspicious for infiltrating ductal cancer". Does that mean it could Not be cancer

thank you for your reply. I have an appt in Lex Ky thurs with a surgeon. I saw my report at my gp office and all it said was "suspicious for infiltrating ductal carcinoma". Needless to say we are absolutely terrified. My breast shrank instead of having any other syptoms other than being hard as a rock.I had a breast lift 6 yr ago but no implants. Hopefully it is scar tissue.

Hi, Kim,
I would DEFINITELY ask for more information from your surgeon---pathology reports are
usually positive or benign, not ambiguous like "suspicious". Mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs can be suspicious, but a biopsy should give you a definitive answer. Please ask, OK? Like japdip said, it may be inconclusive because there wasn't enough tissue-
you don't say what type of biopsy you had.
Hopefully, by now, you've gotten more information from your doctor, but if not, pursue it.
You need a definitive diagnosis so you can get proper treatment. Please take care of yourself and follow through on whatever is recommended. If you don't feel comfortable with the information you're getting, please get a second opinion, hopefully at a breast center.
Wishing you all the best, and sending you a hug (    ),

As a rule the report from a biopsy is more specific than that. You should have the entire report explained to you in detail. I suppose if that is ALL that was stated on the report (which I doubt) there is a slight possibility that it could NOT be cancer but I would think there is a need for more investigation; possibly a different type of biopsy that would obtain a larger specimen so that a final diagnosis could be made.   Regards .....
