breast pain

I have been having pain in my right breast for about 5 months. Most of the time I feel it more near my armpit but it usually makes the whole breast ache. Recently it started causing some shoulder pain and the breast does feel more dense than the left one. Should I be worried, the only test I've done is self tests and I don't feel any lumps.

Dear kbabbz,  Breast pain is a common breast symptom.  The reason for breast pain is not clearly understood, and is not usually associated with breast cancer.  Breast pain is sometimes associated with hormonal variations and is then called cyclical breast pain.  Noncyclical breast pain does not seem to be linked to hormonal variations and is often localized to one area of the breast tissue.  Noncyclical breast pain may or may not be the result of an injury to the breast.  Without physical examination, ability ask questions etc. it is difficult to advise you as to what this pain could be.  It is best to discuss with your doctor, who can evaluate.

I suffered from burning in and right under my left breast for many months and was told that it was nothing. When I had a mammo I was told it was fine. 14 months later another mammo indicated a tumor (2cm) which it turns out showed clearly on the first mammo (but the radiologist missed it). I kept mentioning the burning but every single doctor said it had nothing to do with it. Well miraculously after surgery (1/3 of breat removed), chemo and radiation that burning sensation disappeared and has been gone now for 8 years. Recently I began feeling it again in the same breast (different location on breast)  and went for a mammo. Lo and behold guess what...there is something they want to explore further. I don't buy the burning means nothing story. Very strange to me it went away for 8 yrs and is now back as I await further diagnosis.

Hi!  I've had very similar symptoms every day for the last 2 months.  I had a mammogram and ultrasound, both of which were negative and provided no insight.  I wanted to have an MRI, but my insurance denied it because nothing has been found in my tests to warrant it.  So. . .from everything I've read, everything I've been told, everything I've seen, this type of pain is certainly common and can be fibrocystic even though it is one-sided, or some sort of non-cyclic pain.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I would suggest you at least get a screening mammogram to ease your mind.  I did that and it helped me feel a bit more at ease.
