core biopsy and aspiration on breast

Hi there, last week after a mammogram on a leeky breast, and my o.k breast, i had to have an ultrasound. This resulted in me having to have a fine needle aspiration in the leeky breast and a corebiopsy in what i thought was the o.k breast.I was in total shock.I had a 2.5CM mass in my o.k breast. After a very long weeks wait here are the results. leeky boob first...10ml of cytorich red FNA collection fluid had abundant amorphous debris admixed with inflammatory cells macrophages and blood. No epithelialcells present.Appearances consistent with duct ectasia,no malignant cells are seen.Ductectasia C2.             The core biopsy results ..4 x 14g core biopsy 15mm heterogenous mass with echogenic halo and slightly irregular margins.inderterminate but suspicious.R4 P1 longest core 9mm.sections show features of a fibroadenoma. No evidence of insitu or invasive malignancy,Also present, small core of breast tissue several lobules ,surrounding connective tissue and fat.Fibroadenoma,B2.My consultant said i can have the fibro out.I think i will im 43 a mum of 3 kids under 12.Could you translate every thing for me and give me any advice on the opperation ,im from england and theres nothing like this here .Im told the op will be done under general aneasthetic and ill have a wire first to locate it.I have been told i have very dense firm breast tissue thats why a lump wasnt felt .Has any one else had the opp? how did it go?Can it turn cancerous if left in?any advice ?Thanks alot.

Bev - They are removing the fibroadenoma due to the irregular margins, which could be a problem, but is likely benign. Looks like all your biopsies/aspirations are okay. I've had all the same issues as you with the exception of needing excisional removal of a fibroadenoma. They have not removed mine as the margins are smooth and the tissue surrounding it is fine. Perhaps someone else can advise as to the surgery.

Because you have dense breasts and have numerous things going on in the breasts, expect to have regular 6 month mammos and ultra sounds...perhaps even future biopsies. I have mammos/ultra sounds every 6 mths and at least 1 biopsy a year. :( The good news...all have been benign!
