fibroadenoma

I am 34 years old and just last week my BF found a lump on my left breast. I went online to do my research and I'm most positive it is fibroadenoma. I waiting to make sure when I get my biopsy done. If it is fibroadenoma, is it necessary to remove it surgically?

This discussion is related to Suspected Fibroadenoma.

Hi,  I have a number of health issues going on and I found this website.  It has been mostly a positive experience.  It's good to get your concerns out in the open.  I can only respond to your question from my own history with a fibroadenoma.  I had it removed surgically because it was very large.  At the time I was told not all have to be removed.  Each case is different.  Mine was absolutely a o k.  Afterwards, I was really glad not to have to wonder about it any more.  What kind of biopsy are you having?

Actually I went to a clinic and the clinician examined me and prediagnosed me with fibroadenoma but she referred me out to get a fine needle aspiration to make sure it is.  I have an appointment for another exam with physician and I will see from there. I only went on the internet just to ease my worries, I was not self diagnosing myself. I really appreciate your comments. I hope you can help me in the future.

First of all I'm going to disagree with what you did; this is absolutely 100% for your own good though. NEVER diagnose yourself with the aid of the internet !!!!! Unless of course you have been to Medical School and then you wouldn't need the internet. PLEASE see you Dr. first and if you want to research your condition after that it's OK. I'm hoping that since you are waiting for a biopsy that you have seen your Physician and had some sort of testing (either ultrasound or mammogram) to determine how suspicious the lump may be that you found. Fibroadenomas are sometimes removed and can be left alone too. The decision to remove will depend on several factors and that will be determined after the biopsy is done and the Pathology report is competed. Sorry about fussing at you but self-diagnosis is a dangerous thing to do; especially when dealing with breast tumors. Please don't hesitate to come back with any questions you may have when you know more about the type of biopsy you will be having. Kindest regards ....
