Breast cancer symptoms won't normally appear so suddenly as you have described.
I have breast cancer (premenopausal) and can not believe that doctors still prescribe HRT to women. Please try to deal with your menopausal symptoms naturally. HRT has been associated with breast cancer.
Hi,
Nipple discharge and pain could be due to the estrogen increase in your body and also because you are going through menopause.I don't think that breast cancer would present this way,as pain is almost never associated with it.
You should discuss with the doctor about HRT.Theoretically, estrogen dominance can contribute to breast cancer especially if you have a breast lump. Some studies show that estrogen alone does not increase the risk, but all I can tell you is that many women have developed breast cancer(including my sister and I) because of it.
It is recommended that all women taking this therapy should have a complete and thorough discussion with her physician, keeping in mind her personal specific risks and benefits. There are always risks and benefits of every and all medications and this must be considered whenever you take any medication.
So please discuss with your doctor what your risks are and if the HRT should be lowered rather than increased.
I added a post below, from a member who was on HRT (estrogen alone). You may find interesting reading it.

I took premarin for many years. After I had taken it for about 4 years, I had a hysterectomy. Cancer was in the center of a polyp in uterus, but had not left the polyp. It was very early cancer. I took no treatments afterwards. I kept taking estrogen, (but not the progesterone) and 13 years later had breast cancer. I hold no one to blame because of the estrogen. Most reports say that estrogen alone does not cause breast cancer, but if one does get the cancer, the estrogen feeds it and makes it grow faster. Guess that is what happened to me. My cancer showed up between yearly mammograms. It was aggressive lobular, 5 CM , 14 nodes positive, making it stage 3. I am in treatment now (Chemo) and doing fine. After my mastectomy---All my tests, xrays, scans, showed no cancer there. I hope you do well also. Hang in There!

I am very hopeful that you have nothing serious going on.
Take care and best wishes......
