just diagnosed with breast cancer

I had a bi-rad 3 and yet I have breast cancer.  They are supposed to call and schedule my MRI this morning.  Dr is feeling lumpectomy and radiation will take care of it.  I am in such shock.  I am only 39, my youngest child just turned 4.  I don't even know what to ask.

Hi ;I am sorry if I misslead you, Bluebutterfly is right, although, In my opinion, nothing is 100% proof.every Cancer Case is unique. But when you catch it on time, your odds of getting well and having a quality life increase tremendously. I was diagnosed in October 2009
with Invasibe Carcinoma Grade III, After MRI, Nuclear Scan, and a battery of tests. I went thru 2 Surgeries. Finally, the prognosis is Stage I,  and I feel fine.
You need to trust your Doctors, and  ask questions. Get INFORMATION.That is power.!!!
This forum is a great source. Please, keep us posted.
I am praying for you.
Regards,
Ali.

Thank you.  just thanks,

The emtional aspect of all this is intense.  Even though I know I am going to be OK I am still scared out of my mind.  I feel fine one minute and crying the next.  Then I feel silly/guilty for even crying because we caught this early and I am going to be fine.  I am a crazy mess of emotions.  I am assuming this is normal.   There was a prt of me that was expecting this to be cancer and yet it still knocked me off my feet when my Dr called.
thanks again,
k

Yes, they usually order all the various tests they need, and then plan the surgery with the patient and make other tx recommendations based on the complete picture that had been obtained during this evaluation process.

Depending on the specifics of any particular case, the patient may also meet with an oncologist or radiologist.

By the way, I can't help but notice  that you seem to have made progress already in dealing your dx, as earlier today you didn't even know what to ask, and now you and your husband have many questions!  Isn't it amazing how we humans are able to cope with even the most frightening, difficult situations?  I don't mean that you won't be experiencing  feelings of anxiety (or even panic), and depression (or even hopelessness), but you have nevertheless begun facing "the enemy" and preparing to fight it...

Please keep us posted on how things are going for you.

Warm regards,
bluebutterfly

Thank you.  Very good info.  My MRI is tomorrow and my husband is going with me.  Not sure when we will meet with the surgeon again.  I am hoping tomorrow.  We have so many questions.  I guess they are probably waiting until the MRI is done so they have all the info.  does that sound right?

I am sorry that you have received a dx of breast cancer. The pathology report from a biopsy, when it indicates cancer, is highly reliable.

The MRI will help to determine if there are any ADDITIONAL areas of concern, and will assist in planning your surgery. Other testsw may also be ordered.

When you meet with your surgeon s/he will probably offer a good deal of information. One  question, if not already discussed, that you might want to ask would be the pros and cons of different types of surgery you may be offered. This in part may be determined by the size, grade, and type of your tumor, but sometimes it is more a matter of the patient's preference.

Make a written list of any questions you may have, and you might want to have someone go to the appt. with you, for moral support and because an extra pair of ears can be helpful to catch everything that is discussed.  Some people even take a tape recorder.

Best wishes...

Why do you say 'if cancer'?  Are the results of the biopsy not accurate?  My surgeon called and said 'you have cancer'.  Could I not really?

The MRI will show, if Cancer, very clearly. I understand you are in Shock, I was too.
I f you are diagnosed, Have it treat it quickly.A Lumpectomy is less invasibe and outpatient. Have a good BREAST Surgeon do this procedure. I have the feeling you will be fine. Let us know. God Bless.
