lump

I posted down several posts ago about a lump about 2 inches below my breast over the rib area that has been there for around 7 years. It is about the size of a dime until it got irritated/infected and swelled up to about the size of quarter. It had a red ring around it and a few days ago I noticed it was forming a head on the side of it. So naturally I push it nad alot of fluid came out and then lumps of cottage cheese material came out. Just about all of the swelling has gone down and the redness has all but dissappeared. And it is no longer sore. There is a small hole that is still draining a little. Does this sound like cyst and will it likly come back since I did not get "all" of it?

Dear shubunkin:  This sounds like an abcess (pocket of infection).  You should keep it clean.  If it becomes red or swells, you should see your doctor.  He/she may need to express the drainage and/or you could need an antibiotic.

it sounds like an infected sebaceous cyst (oil gland). It will need surgical removal at some point. Not a big deal.
