mammogram results

I just received my results of my mammogram and have been sent for an ultrasound and an appointment to see a surgeon.  My oncologist (previously had colorectal cancer in 2000) felt this was needed but said she felt it was nothing.  Im concerned because my mother is a breast cancer survivor.  I do not understand the results.  It says a 2.5x1.7 cm ovoid nodular with somewhat ill-defined margins located in the inferior medial aspect of right breast at approximately 4 o'clock location.  The oncologist did an exam and felt nothing.  Help me understand this

This discussion is related to small oblong nodular density.

Very good and wise decision! I would have done the same, just to make sure.
A fine needle aspiration of the fluid in the cyst is a very simple procedure that will definitely clarify things and put your mind at ease instead of worrying needlessly for the next six months to come.
Hoping that all will turn out just fine for you.
All the best! :)

The ultrasound said it was a cyst and recommended another ultrasound in 6 months.  I chose to see a surgeon tomorrow because I am a colorectal cancer survivor and my mom is a 2 time breast cancer survivor.  I feel it still needs to be checked.  It was relatively large about an inch so nervous about going but feel it is wise to check it out  my appointment is tomorrow afternoon so I trying to stay positive.  I just don't do the waiting game well
thanks for asking

Hi,
You have been asked to have an Ultrasound because this test can show if a nodule is fluid-filled or solid. In order to decide if the nodule is suspicious enough to require further testing, your radiologist will look at the edges of the mass, called the margins. If the margins are smooth and the mass is round or oval, it is most likely benign. However,if the edges are ill defined, then it is more concerning and the radiologist might recommend to monitor this lump or decide to biopsy it,if the Ultrasound shows that the nodule has suspicious characteristics.
I realize you are stressed right now, and there is really not much anyone can say to take away that anxiety.Try to think positive thoughts although it is a hard thing to do.
Keep in mind that many lumps found in the breast are benign in nature.
I wish you the best ...
