There are different types of microcalcifications, and based on their pattern on the mammogram it gives the radiologist clues as to their cause. Microcalcifications do occur normally in breast tissue. When they are seen in groups or certain patterns there is cause for concern and further investigation is recommended. Evidently since a 6 mo. follow-up was recommended there was no particular pattern seen on mammography. DO follow the recommendation for follow-up though.
