I just had a mammogram 2 days ago- the first one in over 10 years. I am 53. I noticed that the nipple on my breast started to indent a few weeks ago.
they called me today to come back in for more detailed pictrues, which showed Microcalcifications, some in an area behind the nipple. The radiologist said they were not fully supsicious, but wanted me to see my doctor right away to undergo a biopsy . Within 2 hours my doctor called me and had scheduled me to see a breast surgeon tomorrow to discuss a biopsy.

is this  normal for the response time to be so quick? does it mean something really bad or does it mean I have good doctors?
i read that 70% of Microcalcifications will be benign, except when you have other signs such as nipple indentation...but that left me hanging- does the two of these symptoms together mean it is cancer?
and, are the cancers associated with Microcalcifications one type of cancer or another?
thanks.

Hi,

You should consider yourself lucky that early appointments and early dates for surgery was got - otherwise the waiting really is unsettling.

You should not panic about why you have got early appointments - just get the tests done - discuss your case with your surgeon in detail and get a copy of all the reports when they come in.

They do not have a confirmed diagnosis and all this is being done so that a confirmed diagnosis can be got. Also, ask your doctors what they think the probable diagnosis could be.

Do let us know about your progress and the reports.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi,
I have a breast lump sort of under my armpit,..they are removing on Monday,..And a mole on my nipple ( I think they are checking to see if it could be a melanoma ) I also had a hysterectomy in July (at age 29) for cervical cancer, and endreometreitis,.. I had a mamo and ultra sound that really did not show anything,..and went home to worry,.actually I found the lump they are removing after seeing the first round of DR.'s,.. But anyhow,..I saw my DR last Friday, he said they would make me an apt. for the surgeon on Monday,..I didn't get a call, then Tuesday morning I got a call saying they needed me to be there for 4:00 same day,..Now I have an apt. for surgery, on Monday,..I wrote the same question here, as far as a time frame,..and every one tells me I am lucky, at least our DR.'s are on the ball! Like I imagine you are,..I am finding this very nerve wracking,..but this is ( I think) the first Operation, I am looking forward to,..not because I am nuts, but just because I am hoping for answers,... Consider yourself lucky is what I keep getting told,.. So,.. Consider yourself lucky!!! :~)
As far as the other I do not know,.. this is new for me too,..I just pray, it will be nothing than a lump,..no cancer!!!
Hang in there,..We will have answers soon enough,..Good Luck!!!
