just returned from 2nd mammogram and US and I spoke to dr who said there is no cancer and the spot they saw was a piece of tissue.
Amen and I have nothing to worrry about.
thank you for the additional inofrmation. I will keep you informed.
Hi again,
Thanks for providing the additional information.
Since your doctor can't tell you anything definitive at this point, I doubt that I will be able to be much help. :-(
But just as general information, presence of the lymph node within the breast tissue is referred to as an intramammary lymph node (IMLN). In breast imaging, they generally fall into BIRADS II. They can be solitary or multiple. Normally, lymph nodes are not a cause of concern when they are less than 1 cm at their longest measurement.
Normal intramammary lymph nodes may appear or enlarge in the breast as a reaction to inflammatory conditions of the skin but also as a reaction to metastatic involvement. When they do so, a round, well defined, homogeneous, high-density mass, larger than 1 cm in diameter may be seen.
Since the nodule which your doctor believes to be a lymph node is only 5mm, that should offer some be reassurance, and other details of the report are also reassuring (no suspicious microcalcifications or areas of architectural distortion).
However, based on your hx of BC, the radiologist and your doctor are being appropriately cautious in seeking further evaluation, to make sure that this actually is a lymph node.
I hope you get some answers tomorrow, so that you won't have to wait and wonder much longer. Please update us when you know more--we care!
Warm regards,
bluebutterfly
the Birads was -0- and I am going in for a redo on the mammogram and maybe a US thursday (tomorrow) further the report said.... there is a 5mm focal asymmetry within the lateral aspect of the anterior right breast on cc view only.
there are no suspicious microcalcifications or areas of architectural distortion. my doctor said there is a very small area probably a lymph node...lymph node what it is normal? not much of an answer and shesaid wait for the redo to get worrried...better said than done..I am scared crazy
First, let me congratulate you on being a survivor for 6 years, and wish you many mor e years with NED (no evidence of disease)!!
I can certainly understand your wanting to know exactly what this might mean, but there's not much to go on. Can you provide any additioinal information? Was a BI-RADS Category included in the report, with recommendations for any type of follow-up?
If not, your best bet would be to call your doctor and ask for a full explanation of your mammogram results.
Best wishes,
bluebutterfly
