Hi!

Congratulations on the baby and your decision to provide your child with the best possible start in life!  As a CLC, I can tell you that there are many possible explanations for redness in both the breasts themselves and surrounding tissue.  If there is any fever, or pain, be sure to get to your doctor, as it may indicate mastitis.  This usually results from a plugged milk duct, and is easily treated with antibiotics.  It can, however, be awfully painful and somewhat dangerous if ignored.  The best prevention for this type of problem is frequent emptying of the breasts, whether it be baby's nursing, pumping, or hand expression.

Best of luck to you, and, again congratulations!

Hi!

Is it on top of your skin, or underneath?  If you have questions, I'd contact your OB/GYNE and ask him/her to take a quick look.

Best wishes,

Chris
