sentinel node biopsy

Can someone tell me what to expect when I receive the dye, how painful is it? What kind of pain and recovery time should I expect from the biopsy. This is the 2nd surgery, lumpectomy being the first which I am still recovering from.

Yes, I am having the dye for locating the Sentinel Nodes. I have read different approaches for the injection of the dye but the comments were not very resent. Just wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect. I do know that the dye is inserted up to 2 hours before the actual surgery.

Hi ..... I would think that you were given some IV sedation for your first procedure .... whether or not you would be during this next procedure. If you're talking about the post-op pain like I said before it shouldn't be much different than before and possibly not as severe. I'm guessing what is being done is injecting dye to locate the Sentinel Node and possibly removing that lymph node to determine if there has been any invasion of cells throughout the lymphatic system. As a rule for this type of procedure you will be given IV sedation as well as a local anesthetic which should produce a "know nothing -- feel nothing" situation for you.   Regards ....
