sore nipple overnight-and small lump in aerola

My nipple is extremely sore, and I think I feel a lump...but I have fibrocystic disease, so can't be sure.  I may have slept on it wrong, but I'm worried.  Do these sound like signs of a cancer  No difference in appearance of breast whatsoever or nipple.  I am scheduling an ultrasound.  I had one 2 years ago.  I am 70-years-old and a woman.  I have atrial fibrillation and definitely don't need more problems.  Please give me some advice.  Does this sound like cancer?

Hi,
Not necessarily...especially because you have no other symptoms except nipple pain and maybe a lump that might or might not be there.
This could be a cyst, (since you say you have fibrocystic condition) or maybe an infection causing the pain you are describing.
keep in mind that pain is almost never associated with breast cancer but many other benign conditions could cause the discomfort.
Try  not to worry... Soon you'll be having the Ultrasound test which will clarify things for you and hopefully resulting in benign findings.
Please let us know how  things are proceeding.
Wishing the best and good luck!
