I know I made a post about cancer about a week ago. But I forgot to ask about something so I am posting again. I have been living with a person that hates me and has a criminal background. I was wondering if the following would be possible. Could they have placed carcinogens in my food over an extended period of time to give me cancer? I don't have signs of cancer yet but I am afraid it might develop. I am scared and it would be helpful for me to have an answer about this. Is it possible? If it is possible what should I do? If this is possible is there a way I should approach the police?
Carcinogens are not available as marketed products which can be mixed in food. I am sure it is not possible to 'poison' somebody with carcinogens by adding them to their food.
However, some types of food such as tinned foods and smoked fish may contain trace amounts of carcinogens and can be a factor in cancer causation if consumed regularly over a prolonged period.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy food, do regular exercises and refrain from addiction. You will surely be able to stay away from cancer.
Be aware of any new growth, lump, changing moles, weight loss, unexplained and prolonged fever, bleeding from anywhere, etc. Seek medical help early you detect any of these symptoms. These are just general recommendations which apply to everyone, and I do not mean that you are at risk of getting cancer in the future based on the information you have shared.
As far as informing police is concerned, as I had mentioned earlier the police is not going to do anything for this!
Speaking as a non-doctor here, but someone who knows a little about chemistry and such...
All of the major carcinogens can only cause cancer over a long period of time, and require constant exposure. Also, most of them are so toxic on their own that any large dose would simply poison you with other symptoms, not cancer.
To give you cancer in any immediate way would require a great deal of knowledge, time, patience, and access to a biological laboratory, and its probably not even possible through food since anything you eat has to be absorbed somehow by your digestive system.
So unless your roommate detonates a small nuclear weapon you aren't at risk for this particular issue.
