Large cell lung cancer

Seeking info from people who have had family members aged in early 70's diagnosed with large cell lung cancer, particularly described as slow growing.   My mother has just had diagnosis.  Lesion was observed on CT scan for two years and written off as scar tissue.  Wondering what course others have taken and what treatments have worked/ not worked.  Thanks
