Liver transplant for cholangiocarcinoma
My husband has been diagnosed with this cancer. We have researched and found that there are two hospitals in the country that do treatment. It involves chemo, radiation and a liver transplant. The dr has told us there is no cure and we can only hope to prolong his life, with chemo, and make him as comfortable as possible. Has anyone heard of this treatment? It is done at Emory Institute in Atlanta and at Presbyterian Hospital in New York.
Do you know which other hospitals do this surgery? My husband has ICC, stage four. He is doing chemo but has also been told that surgery is not an option.
We just found out that surgery is not an option. The cancer has spread outside the liver into the gall bladder and the peritoneum. Now it's a matter of chemo, should he decide to do it, and getting his scrip for Marinol to boost his appetite and to hep with effects of chemo. Having a hard time getting it filled, due to only having Medicare. The co-pay they quoted is a little out of our reach but I am looking into programs to help.

No, we haven't tried Dr. Henry. We got a call from Emory a couple of days ago and they said they did get a referral from the dr. they just need to see his records. He has a tentative appt for the end of the month.
Have you tried Dr henry? He is a member of AACR-American Association for Cancer Research, CRI-Cancer Research Institute and WCR-Worldwide Cancer Research which is a charity that funds research projects into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world. Some of their recent research projects are focused on herbal therapy,less of chemo and some recent developments have been discovered. I'm sure your case would fit in perfectly cos my mom was a beneficiary. Do not be discouraged by the negatives. All I've got is the old mail-***@****. His doctor won't make the referral to Emory. He doesn't meet the criteria for the treatment. Tumor too big, his age, protein level being low and overall health is poor. He said he would however, refer him to the James Cancer Center or the Cleveland Clinic but he would get he same answers. He doesn't want him to travel to Georgia and be away from his family just to , maybe, not making it back. That would be treasured time wasted, money soent and etc. So, with all that said, my husband is declining chemo, since it does destroy the liver anyway.
I have an email in to James Cancer Center, here in Ohio as the other places are a good distance away and our resources are limited. The official diagnosis is intrahepatic bile duct carcinoma.
This treatment protocol is a cure.
