Night Sweats from Lymphoma

My friend was just diagnosed with Lymphoma.  She had breast cancer 10 years ago.  She is having a very hard time with night sweats and it unable to get adequate rest.  She is having radiation treatments every other day.  On the day she has radiation, the night sweats are worse.  Does anyone know what can help with the night sweats?  She is also starting to get nausea.  What is good for nausea while receiving radiation?

i think i get what you wrote now about the lymph nodes i thought u were quoting that website but i think u were just stating it makes sense that itll b in all the nodes especially that largest? lol im sorry im probably confusing u

i also wanted to mention my oncologist said that a lot of the time PET scans light up for infection as well it doesnt just like up at cancer.

I was talking to my Hemotologist/encologist and i asked that specific question and she told me why would a doctor biopsy a node smaller than the largest? If you biopsy the largest lymph node expecially near by nodes you will get the diagnosis (usually).  She said insurance in general will not pick up biopsies of all the enlarged lymph nodes.  So I had the largest node biopsied and it happens to be nearby the clavicle area.  You wrote how the mayo clinic stated something about melanoma but your link is to a lymphoma link.  

I apologize since i am not understanding because its hard to understand typing instead of actual conversation person to person but u wrote "sounds like that would not be true" what might not be true about a small lymph node and larger one having different outcomes?  Im sorry i just dont know if you are agreeing with the website or my doctor you know what i mean.  Because i have actually read on the american cancer societies website and i called their representatives and have asked that question and they agreed with my doctor.  See now I am not so sure on what to do.  She explained since its a lymphatic system and that its a drainage and each lymoh node has to do with the next it makes no sense to biopsy every single lymph node.  But im not a doctor either im just referring to what my oncologist said.  

My white blood count? it was normal nothing out of range on my entire cbc and some other blood test she gave me.  Thanks for responding btw it seems like not a lot of people write on this board.

Cancer can be in some Lymph nodes and not others so common sense sounds like that would not be true, but I don't know (I am not a doctor).  What is your white blood cell count?  When a person has cancer it is high.

thanks. Btw my dr said that when you biopsy the largest lymph node they are normally all benign since there all connected. Do u know if this is true?  They are all very close to eachother. Also the ct scan showed one supraclavicular lymph node to be 1.1cm. I can feel a bunch of nodes but all small. Did the ct scan miss those? Isnt that unlikely? Ct scans I read are very accurate. also If my ct scan was good from shoulders down is it unlikely to have cancer brewing somewhere else?  I also had an ovarian ultrasound as well it was fine.

When is your pet scan?  The pet scan will give you answers.  The waiting is the hard part.  Hopefully, it is negative.  If not, there are many kinds of Lymphoma and Hodgkin's lymphoma is very treatable.  Let me know what the finding are.

well I had the biopsy about 2 months ago but now I got a second opinion and he wants to be 100% sure so now I have to get a pet scan. In the last 3 months I've had 2 ct scans and now a pet scan. I'm 23 I'll probably be able to glow in the dark soon. I have palpable supraclavicular nodes. I asked him what's the likely hood that these lymph nodes right next to the one I had biopsied are cancer I just had a biopsy. He said very unlikely just to make sure. Then I have to go to an infectious disease doctor. I've been tested for HIV it was negative. I feel really doomed it seems this has no other way out but something serious.

I put Encephalomalcia in as a name because I was having a hard time coming up with something that do not already exist.  I had to get my question in quickly on the heart site, because my mom was in the hospital and all her organs shut down after heart surgery.  She passed away Sept 3rd.  I have been in the medical field a good share of my work life and have worked with a lot of doctors.  Almost everyone on my dad's side of the family has got cancer and some on my mom's side.  I made a list one day and it was around 75 people, 50 family, 25 friends that have had cancer.  

Have you just being tested now to see if you have Lymphoma or is it positive?  Lymphoma is curable and everyone I know so far has survived.  Their treatment was radiation and chemo.

My friend had strep and the antibiotics were not helping.  She got red oval spots on her legs.  Her legs were also aching bad.  Those were her only symptoms. The Pet scan diagnosed her.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am going through a whole bunch of tests for lymphoma was wondering how your friend got the diagnosis of lymphoma?

Thank you for your comment.  I have not asked my friend what type of lymphoma she has been diagnosed with yet.  She is receiving only radiation for 6 weeks first.  Not sure what kind of additional treatment she will need after.  The Lymphoma is in the glands in her back.  The night sweats are worse on the days that she has radiation which is ever other day.

Hi.
How are you?  Do you know specifically the type of your friend’s lymphoma?  Is she only on radiation therapy or is she receiving systemic treatment?
Sweating is one of the B symptoms of lymphoma.  This would go away during treatment.  However, there are instances when the sweating persists during and even after treatment.  
As for the nausea, she may take metoclopramide or granisetron.  She should also inform her doctor of the side effects being experienced.
