PSA test

My father is 82 years old. He has just undergone an ultrasound of prostate and was found to have mildly enlarged prostate. Is it still necessary at his age to have his PSA tested? Will it do him any better? Thank you

Hi,
A mildly enlarged prostate in an 82 year old man is quite common, and does not raise any specific doubts of prostate cancer.
PSA is a tumor marker, and is advised by the US National Cancer Institute for all men over the age of 50. For details, pl check: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Detection/PSA
All the best, and God Bless!
