Please tell me this is not testicular cancer

Okay... deep breath.

For awhile now, I noticed my left testicle was slightly larger, but it never really bothered me.

Then a couple days ago, I noticed/got a painful red bump that is located on the left side of my pelvis kind of right above where the skin would become the scrotum.  The bump is not actually on the testicle, or even really the scrotum, and though it feels mostly below the skin, it is red in that area and from I can tell slightly raised.  When I first noticed the bump, it was extremely painful to the touch, felt larger and mostly below the skin.  Now the bump has shrunk, and it's not as painful, but it is still somewhat sensitive to the touch.  My left testicle is still bigger, and the red bump is still slightly there.  Definitely not gone, and I'm not sure if it's going away.

Some input would be really appreciated on this.  Maybe the two symptoms aren't related, but what could the red bump be?  Would testicular cancer be red and visible above the skin, painful, and not located directly on the scrotum?

Please reply.

Sincerely,
Worried and Freaking Out

If your noticing that one of your testicles is larger than the other and your feeling discomfort you should make an appointment with a urologist just to be on the safe side.

I'm also worried cause the testicle is larger on that side and everything feels uncomfortable down there.  It almost feels like my testicle is swelling.  And maybe my abdomen is straining, but I don't know if that's all in my head cause I'm freaking out.

Now obviously you should go to a doctor. Personally I think it's probably just an in-grown hair, but to make sure you have to get it checked out.

UPDATE: I just had my girlfriend look at it, and she said it's white in the center like a pinpoint.  She says she didn't see any color around it, but the skin looks dark-red/purplish to me.  She also laughed and said my left nut is bigger than me right.
