Testicular Cancer?

Hi, 3 months ago i was checking my tesicles and noticed a lump connected at the top of my left tesicle which is a sort of sausage shape about 2-3cm long and feels quite fatty? (not hard but not soft) if you know what i mean. I know the epididimus is connected to the top of each testicle but the right side is totally different.
A week later i developed lower back pain and loose stools so decided to go to the doctors. I was diagnosed with epididimitus and given antibiotics (250mg Cipro) for one week. The problem still persisted and i was really worried so i went back to the doctors and requested a ultrasound. That came back fine with no sign of cancer so the doctor reassured me and said the back pain was not connected and was down to my size ( 6ft 2" and 21 stones).
Now three months on i still have the back pain and am getting really worried that the ultrasound may be wrong is this possible? there has never been any pain in my scrotum  and the lump is not tender.
Could it still be cancer or can epididimitus cause back pain? Please help.

Hi, since the last post i have been back to se a different doctor, she reviewed the notes from the ultrasound and reassured me everything was ok, she then checked my reflexes and movement as well as my height, weight and BMI.She also reviewed my earlier blood tests and said that they had checked for all sorts of other nasty things and everything is fine, she said if anything was seriosly wrong it would have shown up in the tests. I have simply been diagnosed with chronic back pain and told to keep up my swimming and gym exercise's to loose weight and strengthen my back muscles.

Thank you for your help, i will keep you informed on my progress.

Hi,

Important to note that a complete physical examination and consultation with a physician is very necessary. Verbal communication online cannot serve as a substitute for a physician consult.

All the best.Glad that I was able to help.

Keep in touch for any questions and news regarding your progress.

Good Luck.

Hi,

Thanks for your help i feel alot less worried now and hopefully this may help my recovery.
I have started swimming to see if it may help my back heal if it is muscular, it has felt slightly better over the weekend but the pain returned once i was back at work. I have tried Ibroprofen which did not help or reduce the pain.
I think i will take your advice and request a scan of my lower lumbar just to check everything out. In the back of my mind i still cant rule out testicular cancer which may have spread to my back or be causing referred pain.

Thank you,

Hi,

Based on your post the pain seems to be associated with prolonged position and rigorous activity (swimming). When one sits, certain muscles are flexed ,the spine may be flexed or extended depending on your height and the chair's size. This may "pinch" some nerves and cause referred painto the legs which may be described as  shooting or stabbing. Some position like extending the legs may relieve the stress to the affected nerves.

You may want to try out yoga or acupuncture as a alternative. However, i suggest you have your lower back assessed first before trying out anything. A CT SCan or MRI may help.

Have you ever tried any medications?

Keep us posted for anything.

Hi,
My stools a different from day to day. They are not smaller in size but just change in looseness. I have the odd one which is dark coloured but put this down to what i have consumed (red wine etc), they recently seem to be getting better and more consistant in formation, i have not seen any blood in them as doctor mentioned that it would be obvoius to see as either bright red of dark red on toilet tissue.
The lump in my scrotum has stayed the same and i think this is the epididmis and maybe just the way i am built as the ultrasound would have seen anything abnormal - i think?
I have been swimming yesterday and the pain was slightly worse after which points towards either muscular or mechanical. My day to day activities include sitting at my desk for a few hours at a time  and this seem to aggrevate the pain, also raising my legs seem to help. I don't know whether i'm just paranoid after all this time and am thinking that everything must be connected?

Hi,

You have mentioned of loose stools in your initial post? Has this persisted? Are there any other changes in your bowel movement? Any change in your stool's character e.g. darkening of stools, smaller size of stools?

Causes of back pain may include nerve problems due to a slipped disk which may compress nerve structures. Kidney diseases like kidney stones and infections of the urinary tract may also cause low back pain.

Any other pain in the body i.e. shooting pain in the leg, some tingling sensation?

How is your typical day like? Do you usually stay in one place, sit down a lot? Do you have some sports related activities which require bending or abrupt movements?

Th pain in your scrotum has not recurred. Has the lump subsided?

You may want to consult a rehabilitation medicine specialist or orthopedic surgeon to assess your low back pain. Some maneuvers in the physical exam may help point to the most probable cause.A CT Scan or MRI of the lumbar spine may be requested.

Good luck!

You may also post a new entry in related forums such as the orthopedics forum regarding your low back pain.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am 24 years old and there is no history of cancer in my family, i also have had no weight loss, loss of appetite or any other symptoms other that the pain in my back. the only time i have had any pain in my scrotom is when i have messed around with it too much so i have also been thinking that maybe the back pain is related to my constant fiddling?
The pain in my back is localized at an area about 1 inch from my spine close to where the dimples in the lower back can be found (if you understand)?
Urination is fine and i feel ok in myself just wish i could find a definate cause to ease my mind.

Hi,

How old are you?
Is there any history of cancer in the family?
Is there any associated unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, or any sexually related problems?
Any change in urine character?
Pain in urination?

You have mentioned that most diagnostic tests came out fine. I suggest that you seek consult with yor physician and have CT Scan or MRI of your lumbar spine done to check the spine and surrounding tissues.

How would you describe your back pain?
Is it localized in the lower back only?
Any activities or medications that relieve it?

I suggest you have your  BUN and creatinine checked.A urinalysis  may also be of help.We need to exclude renal stones and infections which may also cause lower back pains.

Avoid unnecessary worrying.

I hope this helps.
