Hi,

You should QUIT SMOKING as the first step.

Smoking can effect both your heart and lungs.

The chest pain could be due to sevral causes , but you mention it going away when you stopped.

It could be reflux symptoms or some thing related to your heart or lungs.

You should consult your doctor at the earliset and get a proper clinical evaluation and relevant investigations including a chest xray and ECG done.

You would need to tell the doctor about your smoking history - enroll yourself in a smoking cessation clinic if you find it diificult to quit on your own.

Do let us know about your progress.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Hi.
Smoking places one at risk to develop pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases, and certain cancers.
Quitting smoking now would lessen the risk.
Since you are experiencing on and off chest pains, it would be best to have yourself examined by a physician for proper evaluation and management.  Diagnostic evaluations like a chest x-ray and electrocardiogram (ECG) would help determine the etiology.
Good luck.
