Bengal Cat Information

I recently saw pictures of a bengal cat and was amazed at how beautiful they are.  I am in the process of looking for a new cat and would love to know more about the bengal breed.  

What is their temprament like??  Do they get along with dogs?

Any information would be helpful.

My Bengal is Wonderful.   Rambunctious but  not out of control or aggressive.  They have been described as  the most dog-like domestic cat and mine really is.  She loves playing chase and is very playful and active.  She does require more attention than some cats and grows bored and restless easily.  But with  daily playtime and outside walks on the leash she is very well-mannered.  Bengals are not the kind of cat that will nap all day while you do your own thing and hide under the bed.  This is a cat for someone that is willing and able to give their pet a lot of stimulation.  
As far as dogs go... mine is pretty nervous around dogs but I adopted her and have no idea if she was socialized to them at a young age, but since she was abandoned  I think she might have had some negative experiences with dogs when she was homeless.

How big is your bengal?  I hear they can get pretty Ginourmous. I have one here I think is part Bengal (not sure) who is the biggest of the lot.  

Then again, we've got a group that runs small right now (most are part Siamese...there's a VERY busy Siamese female cat out there somewhere and we seem to be ending up with her kids lately. Apparently, she's easy and will sleep with any breed. :)  )

My Bengal is a little over 10 lbs.   She is really long with small bone structure, but has an adorable gut that swings side to side as she is sprinting around the house.  It is the funniest thing ever   =)

You have a pot-bellied-pig cat! We have one of those!

They're pot bellied pigs who have never felt comfortable in their bodies. After many injections of dander and therapy sessions, they finally have species-change operations into cats.

I think I was thinking of Maine Coons. Bengals are easily mixed up with Maine coons. (...no, really!!!)  :)

I have a young Bengal cat that I got as a therapy cat.  She is highly trainable -- she will sit, not bite when told "no teeth," not use her nails with us, and we have set boundaries with her.  The personality is wonderful, very loving and wants to be with you all the time.  She doesn't want us to do anything but love her.  She loves to kiss us and will "bathe" us.

She goes on wild "tears" around the house, Bengals are high energy cats.  As a kitten, she wore me out the first two weeks.  I read a lot of information on Bengals and training them.  She loves to jump, can jump 9 ft.  Trying to hold onto her is like trying to hold a greased pig, my husband says her spine must be made out of rubber.  The hair is short and silky, we see no hair discharge.  

We have had a lot of cats, including two Maine Coon cats.  This cat is by far the best one we have had.

Our Bengal Zany is now 12 years old.  We got her from a breeder when she was about 2.  She also has the flabby belly because she was a breeder and had several litters by they time we got her.  Zany weighs about 18 pounds.  The F1 generation of Bengals comes from breeding an Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic breed that can be anything from a tabby to a Siamese so the resulting generations can vary considerably in size, temperment, and coloration.  A distinctive feature of all purebred Bengals though is the reflective fur tips that almost looks like day glo in bright light.

my bengal is like a dog.  You have to give Bengal cats a lot of attention because they are very active and social cats.  They enjoy hunting (A LOT) and they are very intelligent cats as well.  If you teach them not to cross the street, they learn, mine did.  They fetch, love to play with small objects that roll.  Some of them love water.  Mine doesn't really like to get wet, but i've heard that some love the water.  They are very loyal cats and a great choice for a lovable companion.

Any cat gets along with a dog if it's a kitten when you get it - and that you get the dog first. Yes, the bengal cat is a very beautiful breed, but it has a few health problems, such as feline leukemia and feline inflammatory bowel disease. They are very loyal cats, with loads of energy in them, so don't expect them to be calm! Bengal cats are also very intelligent and have the instincts of a wild leopard... I hope I could help! :)
