CAT WONT STOP PEEING ON COUCH
Hello!
My cat is a female and she keeps peeing on our couch! We had to put one in the garbage a month ago and now she's peeing on the new one too.
We have brought her to the vet and she was treated for a UTI she started to do it again so we brought her back the second time and the vet said her Ph was high and she was close to having another UTI so we bought more pills for our cat but yet she still is peeling on our new couch.
We have two litter boxes in the house and we have no other animals! She is also fixed

Buy & try puppy training pads. Especially after you use the Natures Miracle to descent the area she used. Place them near her litter boxes too. Pamela

thats exactly the issue we are trying to explain Jilly......this dry food is NOT a good diet....a good diet will have protien like chicken, beef, pork, venison listed FIRST and a good diet is NOT dry your kitty needs a WET FOOD diet desperately to help with her crystals...
did you read this site I sent you? this Vet tells WHY dry diets are so dangerous.....
st/ox is for struvite/oxilate crystals....and its not possible to have both at once since one is due to a high PH the other is for a low PH.....purina is NOT a good food I don't care wht your Vet tells you.
ANY wet food is better that dry especially for crystals.....
and NO a cat cannot loose weight on dry carb loaded food unless you starve them. the nutrition is so low already if you feed less they will starve.
by feeding wet food that is not loaded in carbs the weight will come down.....however 13lbs is NOT overweight!!!!!!

Those things don't seem like something to help a cat lose weight ?

So today I heard my cat scratching on the wall, she does this before she pees . So I went to check and make sure she was in her box but instead she was peeing on the floor about 4 feet away from both her litter boxes. She had peed on that place before. I went to the pet store and bought natures miracle for removing odour ! Hopefully it helps.

jilly...we are probably overloading you with info...I will add just ONE more site that is very important you read. its all about feline urinary tract health..and why dry foods are so dehydrating to their urinary tract and what causes this high PH.
like Dr Pierson states.....this painful condition is like having a cork inserted up into our urethra and trying to pee...its PAINFUL...and can be completely reversed before this obstruction causes a burst bladder...by a wet food diet and plenty of water.
please copy and paste this site and read it!!!!! it will save your kitty I promise.
also click on any of the blue highlighted words to read further on things like cystitis and all the bad about low quality 'expensive' prescription diets...the Vet really knows what she is talking abt and I refer to her site very often..

Seems like you are doing everything right on your end , soooooo, lets take a look at your Vet.
1-Has your vet made sure there is No obstruction in her urethra, like built up sediment. A catheter is inserted through the urethra into the bladder
There may be an infection in the bladder from the blockage and he will prescribe more antibiotics.
2- He should check for kidney or bladder stones.
3- I agree 100% with AnnieBrooks in that the doctor should put her on a no magnesium diet of WET food. Hills has a prescription diet food called Diet Feline s/d. During this time No other food is allowed for a few weeks to see if there is improvement.
4-Make sure the Litter box is cleaned EVERY day to prevent infection.
5- Frankly your vet just telling you "OOPPS she has another UTI " isn't good enough especially if he is prescribing dry cat food. . Even non-vets know that is wrong.
Perhaps you should take her to another vet.
Once she is cleared of ANY physical cause then it is a behavior problem.
First things first though and get her to another vet or back to your reg vet for more testing. If there is a blockage this is nothing to take lightly.

Hate to disagree with a vet, but I would try giving the cat a canned food instead.
We haven't changed to a new cat litter.
We already bought her a 100 dollar stainless steal water fountain and her urine was tested for bacteria.
The food she is on now is dry and the vet put her on it.

Have you changed to a new cat litter recently? Your vet should be not just treating the symptoms if she gets UTI's frequently he should be finding out what is causing it.
jilly I bet she is on a diet of dry food right?.....dry food is so dehyrdrated, cats never drink enough water to compensate than this
contributes to a high PH and crystals..crystals in the urine are irritating and can be painful...when a cat feels pain either peeing or pooping they associate this pain with their litter boxes and look for softer or cooler places to use.
also have you used an enzyme cleaner to get the scent of the urine off the sofa after cleaning? cats can still detect the scent if you haven't and will think its 'ok' place to go...cats go so much on scent alone. get a good enzyme cleaner at a pet store and clean as per directions.
also start her on a good wet food diet....slowly so she doesn't get a gi upset....start with 3/4 of her old food mixed with 1/4 of her new canned diet and slowly reduce one while adding to the other.

We have never seen her pee on the couch before, she always seems to do it when we are not in the room.

Did you put either litter box right near the couch? If a cat is peeing due to a UTI, often the problem is that they pee where they are when the pain hits.
If you think she is peeing willfully because of territory, are there other cats around outside who she can see out the window by the couch? In other words, is she marking (peeing backwards out of her urethra when standing up) or peeing (squatting down in the normal way)? The marking comes from trying to put up a territorial sign against other cats, or to mark the house so it feels like hers. Peeing where she happens to be, is a sign of pain and the need to urgently urinate. If her problem is UTIs, you should talk to your doc about her diet.
